Customer Identification Types
The identification_type attribute indicates the legal identity scheme used to identify the buyer in the TRA EFDMS:
| Code | Identification Scheme | Description and Format | Scope |
|---|---|---|---|
TAX_IDENTIFICATION_NUMBER | Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) | 9-digit unique numeric identifier issued by TRA (e.g. 123456789). | Required for B2B transactions where the buyer claims input VAT. |
NATIONAL_IDENTIFICATION_AUTHORITY | NIDA National ID | 20-digit national identity number issued by NIDA for Tanzanian citizens and resident individuals. | B2C transactions with national identification. |
PASSPORT | Passport Number | International passport number for foreign natural persons and non-residents. | B2C transactions for international visitors/tourists. |
VOTERS_NUMBER | Voter ID Card Number | Official voter registration number issued by the National Electoral Commission (NEC). | B2C individual identification. |
DRIVING_LICENCE | Driver's License Number | Valid Tanzanian driver's license number. | B2C individual identification. |
NO_IDENTIFICATION | No Identification (NIL) | Used when no customer identifier is collected (e.g. walk-in retail sales). | B2C retail transactions. |
VAT Registration Number (VRN)
The vat_registration_number (VRN) is assigned by TRA to businesses registered for Value Added Tax. It typically follows the format 40-XXXXXX-X or 50-XXXXXX-X.
For B2B customers who are VAT-registered, include both the identification_number (TIN) and vat_registration_number (VRN) so both values appear on the fiscal invoice.
